How about you set the record straight Mr. and Mrs. Christian

This is cross-posted from a Facebook discussion board 1,000,000 Christians praying for Obama. I didn't want it to get lost in the noise...

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned what I'm about to say, but here goes. I've been amazed at how many white friends of mine who are Christians are really struggling with the Obama presidency while most of my black Christian friends are elated. For the record, I'm a registered independent, and I voted for Bush in 2000 and failed to vote in 2004. I voted for Bush in 2000 because I believed that he held true to some of my "Christian" values and beliefs. However, over the years, I think that we as Christians have somehow equated the Republican Party as the party of Christian values and the Democratic Party as the party of baby killing, gay-loving heathens.

Point 1: Jesus was not and is not a Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian. I wish Christians would point that out before they start yelling about "family values" because that would at least keep our "witness" in check. Jesus was not a conservative or liberal or even an American.

Point 2: God is not in control. To give in on dislike for Obama on the notion that God is in control, is a mistake. Because, what if Obama DOES mess up? Remember I voted for Bush in 2000. Is God in control of the economy and the war right now? Because if so, He's the one that needs to be impeached... If God was in control, there wouldn't be war, hate, rape, robbery, etc., because God is in control in Heaven, and we don't hear about the crime rate in Heaven. If God was in control, we wouldn't have babies being aborted in the first place, which leads me to my 3rd point...

Point 3: If abortion and gay marriage are the only two reasons not to support Obama, that's a pretty weak argument. These social issues were brought on by the Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ not doing its job. How many people have you led to Jesus? How many people has your life and/or marriage been an example for?! Better yet, how many people were watching your "Christian" life and decided that they would be better off NOT going to church or trying to be a "Christian"?

What if every family taught their children not to have sex before marriage? Would the abortion rate go up or down? What if Christian men didn't cheat on their wives with young girls and force them to get an abortion? The abortion thing wouldn't be an issue if Pastors in churches would teach the Bible as it relates to practical every day life.

As for homosexuality, how many people turned to homosexuality as a result of some priest that molested them at some church? or had a father or uncle molest them in their "Christian" home?

This is not to excuse homosexuality or abortion, but there are plenty more sins and morality issues that God doesn't like (i.e. hatred, racism, adultery, fornication, lying, gossiping, etc, etc, etc..) Sure, killing babies is bad. But we've been killing people for thousands of years, some just out of pure hate. You have to understand that the Bible says that faith works by way of Love (Galatians 5:6). The Christian Church in America doesn't have a leg to stand on with any of these social issues because the world don't know us by our love. There is very little true love in the Church in America. Just look around the next time you go to church, and see how many different faces you see...

Point 4: Why are we trying to legislate morality in the first place? I thought that was why Jesus died on the cross? How awesome would it have been if Jesus could have passed a law instead of dying on the Cross!

Point 5: Out of over 200 years of history and after 400+ years of slavery, bigotry, racial hatred and division, we have a democratically elected black President of the United States of America. How can that get lost in all the fear and apprehension (which by the way wasn't given by God according to 2 Tim 1:7). Adding to the fact that not only is he just a black man, but he is a person who both has a appreciation for what blacks have been experiencing all of their lives because of his skin color, and has an appreciation for living and growing up in "white America" because he grew up in a white household.

In conclusion, I truly hope that you, take the time to open your mouth and truly pray for and pray about President-Elect Obama. In the process of praying, give yourself time to hear back from God about what he has to say about President - Elect Barack Hussein Obama, then take the time to look into your life and see what things are "giving place to the devil" to allow hatred, distrust, and pure evil to seep into your heart and mind...

Help Christians not Suck....

Be Blessed...
